The SOLJET PRO III XC-540 is the
ultimate high-volume production tool for stunning indoor and outdoor banners, signs, vehicles,
decals, POP displays and more. Numerous upgrades make this the industry’s most advanced
printer/cutter including an impressive maximum print speed of 441 sqft./hr. Engineered to
support high-volume environments, the XC-540 delivers vibrant 6 color CMYKLcLm images, features a tri-heating
system and advanced media feed and automatic take-up system, and can be upgraded with an optional
dryer/blower.
The XC-540 streamlines the production process by automatically
contour cutting printed graphics. By eliminating the need to reload and reposition graphics,
the XC-540 integrated cutter saves valuable time and effort.
For laminating graphics, simply remove prints, laminate and reload them for
precision cutting. The Quadralign four-point optical registration system automatically realigns
the cutting path and compensates for skew and distortion. The XC-540 can also
function as a stand-alone vinyl cutter.
ECO-SOL MAX is a remarkable innovation
in ink technology. Building on Roland’s award-winning eco-solvent ink, ECO-SOL MAX features
several new enhancements including faster drying time, higher density, wider color gamut, improved
scratch resistance, lower cost per square foot, and broader uncoated media support. In addition, ECO-SOL
MAX is virtually odorless and does not require any special ventilation or environmental
equipment. ECO-SOL MAX graphics are water- and UV-resistant up to 3 years outdoors*.
* Outdoor durability is based on accelerated weather tests. Results may vary
depending upon location and application. Dry times vary depending on specific media characteristics.
Lamination may be required for some applications or environmental conditions.
The XC-540 features 6-color (CMYKLcLm) ink sets, which produce higher color quality,
gamut and tonal density for stunning images in any print mode. The XC-540 was
designed with high-volume production in mind and comes standard with a protective removable
tray for Roland’s new 440ml ECO-SOL MAX cartridges. The XC-540 and VersaWorks
2.0 monitor ink levels in either 220ml or 440ml cartridges and post a warning when levels
run low.
The XC-540 precisely controls droplet placement in both the print head travel
and paper feed directions to provide up to 1440 x 1440 dpi resolution. It uses a digital servomotor
to control the media and features Piezo print heads. Variable droplet technology uses micro-precise
ink droplets of three different sizes depending on the type of output. This state-of-the-art
technology delivers truly breathtaking output with beautifully smooth, dot-free tones even at
high print speeds. To further ensure the highest print quality, VersaWorks supports
industry standard ICC profiles. In addition, VersaWorks comes with several
Roland media profiles and is compatible with profiles created through standard profiling packages.
An updated list of profiles can be accessed through the Roland@NET service.
When printing at higher speeds, many printers can produce
only low density color with severely reduced image quality. Roland’s unique Precision
Firing Pattern was designed to achieve the highest printing speeds possible while maintaining
vibrant high density colors.
The XC-540 takes advantage of this advanced firing pattern,
which has been optimized for its piezo print heads. The XC-540’s 6-color
CMYKLcLm ink sets produce stunning images with unparalleled image, color, gamut, density and
quality in any print mode. In addition, Roland’s in-line head configuration eliminates
the need for lengthy calibration procedures and costly down time.
In addition to printing fine art reproductions, the XC-540 can
produce 360 x 360 dpi signs, banners and POP displays at 441 sqft./hr. With one-inch-wide print
heads that employ 360 nozzles each, the XC-540 prints large 30-sqft. banners
in only minutes. The chart below illustrates the various print modes, resolution settings, and
the resulting production capacity in square feet per hour.

VersaWorks 2.5 RIP software features an efficient
graphical user interface for consistent, professional results and includes several new
upgrades including a spot color library, and functions for spot color replacement, clipping
and auto-nesting. Together these features ensure added convenience, economy and precision color
reproduction.
VersaWorks allows users to easily import
files from their favorite program without a lengthy learning curve. Standard features include
the ability to preview jobs on screen, and layout, edit and print functions including nesting,
tiling and auto/manual-layout. In addition, users can automatically update VersaWorks through
the Internet, ensuring that they are equipped with the latest software version and ICC profiles
available. Built upon the genuine Adobe® PostScript® CPSI™ RIP engine, VersaWorks
is compatible with Windows 2000/XP operating systems.
A true production printer, the XC-540 features an upgraded media feed and take-up
system accommodating rolls of up to 66 lbs. for long, unattended printing. Seven permanent repositionable
pinch rollers enhance image quality through even the longest print runs. In addition, the XC-540
features media guides, a vacuum platen and twin head heights to ensure correct media feed for
thin or lighter media.
The XC-540’s integrated tri-heater system dries
prints quickly even in high-speed modes for immediate finishing, installation or collection
by the take-up system. The system features three components: a pre-heater that improves media
receptiveness, a print heater to accelerate ink fastness and brightness, and a dryer to accelerate
the drying process and improve productivity, workability and scratch resistance. All can be
controlled from either the printer panel or Roland VersaWorks.
To fully take advantage of the XC-540’s high print
speeds and exceptional ink saturation, Roland recommends the optional DU-540 dryer system
featuring an additional dryer and blower system. The DU-540 integrates seamlessly with the XC-540 for optimum
ease of use.
As with all Roland inkjet printers, the XC-540 is a virtually bulletproof
production machine. With regular maintenance, it will provide years of trouble-free service.
But, unlike most inkjets that require daily maintenance, the XC-540 requires
servicing significantly less often. The XC-540 ink system features a motor-driven
elevator that automatically adjusts to print head height. It has wipers that clean two heads
at a time and flush the ink on each pass.
Equipped with a new Roland-engineered 100 BASE-TX/10 BASE-T interface, the XC-540 connects
seamlessly to office networks without additional software, achieving an increased data transmission
rate of 100 Mb/sec. This makes it easy to configure a highly efficient printing environment.
